NFL Free Agency is here.
The new league year officially started Thursday afternoon, which means the free agency window officially opened as well. There's been a lot of chatter regarding the free agent market this year, especially with players like quarterback Tony Romo - who's been linked to the Denver Broncos – on the market, per Chris Mortensen. Teams around the AFC West have already made some moves prior to the free agency start time, but could potentially make a couple more splashes in the coming days.
While it remains to be seen who could join the ranks of the AFC West, one thing is certain, a number of players from the division have already found new homes.
Let's take a look at what's occurred around the division thus far:
Denver Broncos
The Broncos will most likely let some players go during free agency this season, but kicker Brandon McManus and inside linebacker Todd Davis probably won't be among them. The team issued ten free agency tenders Tuesday afternoon, including one to starting center Matt Paradis. The 27year old has started every game for the Orange Crush the past two seasons, and has been a reliable anchor in the middle for the team.
In his three seasons with the Broncos, McManus has connected on 68 field goals and 108 extra points. He's widely considered around the league as a quality kicker, and it appears as though the Broncos recognize his value.
Kansas City Chiefs
The 2017 NFL Scouting Combine showcased a lot of talented players attempting to enter the league and linebacker Haason Reddick seems to have caught the attention of the Chiefs.
Chiefs.com reported that the Temple-product could serve as a solid cog in their system given his 6'1", 230-pound frame. Reddick had a solid Combine, as he ran a 4.5 second 40-yard dash, finished with a 36.5-inch vertical leap, and put up 24 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press. If the Chiefs do decide to select him with the 27th overall pick, he could provide some quality speed and strength in the middle of the field.
Los Angeles Chargers
Similar to the Broncos, the Bolts made some transactions Tuesday afternoon, and will be parting ways with some of their veteran players. Wide receiver Stevie Johnson, cornerback Brandon Flowers, and guard D.J. Fluker will now be available to other teams. Combined, the trio played in a total of 100 games during their tenure with the Chargers.
Johnson posted 497 receiving yards for the team in 2015, to go along with three touchdowns, but was unable to take the field in 2016 due to a knee injury suffered during the team's training camp. On the defensive side of the ball, Flowers tallied four interceptions and an interception during his three seasons with the Chargers.
Chargers.com announced Thursday afternoon, the Chargers re-signed safety Jahleel Addae, long snapper Mike Windt, and quarterback Kellen Clemens. The deals were accomplished before their contracts became expired.
