ALAMEDA, Calif.– The Oakland Raiders have signed first-round draft pick S Karl Joseph, the club announced Monday.

Joseph was selected 14th overall by the Raiders in last month's draft. He played four seasons at West Virginia, starting 42 games. He totaled 284 tackles (209 solo), eight interceptions, 12 passes defensed, two sacks, eight forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries over his career. He was a team captain as a junior and senior and holds the school record with eight forced fumbles.

As a senior, the 5-foot-11, 200-pounder played in four games for the Mountaineers last year before suffering a season-ending injury. At the time of his injury, he ranked first in the nation with 1.3 interceptions per game (5 interceptions in four games). In 2014, Joseph was named All-Big 12 First Team by conference coaches and All-Big 12 Second Team by the Associated Press.

The Orlando, Fla., native was also a two-time Orlando Sentinel Defensive Player of the Year his final two seasons at Edgewater High School.
