Former Oakland Raiders defensive back Dave Grayson has passed away. Grayson played defensive back for the Silver and Black from 1965-70.
"The Raiders family is saddened by the passing of Dave Grayson," said Owner Mark Davis. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Grayson family."
Grayson, who played in 84 league games with 42 starts with the Raiders, recorded 29 interceptions, including four interceptions returned for touchdown. He snagged 48 total interceptions during his 10-year professional career, which included four seasons with the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs.
His best season as a Raider came in 1968 when he picked off 10 passes and amassed 195 yards in returns. His 29 interceptions rank seventh all-time in Raiders history.
The San Diego-native also appeared in eight playoff contests for the Raiders, and was a member of the team's 1967 AFL Championship team that played in Super Bowl II against the Green Bay Packers.
Grayson was a more-than-capable return man as well, as he served as a kick and punt returner for both the Texans/Chiefs and the Raiders.
He was 78 years old.
