Andre James' role as the Raiders' starting center may not be heavily glorified, which is exactly why NFL.com's Tom Blair and Gennaro Filice chose him as one their "underappreciated" players.
The two writers compiled a list of one player on each of the 32 rosters who they believe doesn't get the recognition they deserve. Their basis is not just on team outlook, but a look at the individual and their level of play.
James signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in 2019, making the switch from guard to center as he entered the NFL. The UCLA product spent his first two seasons as Rodney Hudson's backup before taking over as the starter in 2021. Over the last three seasons, he's started 48 games and re-signed with the Raiders this offseason.
In 2023, James received a career-high offensive grade from Pro Football Focus (74.6) and committed only two penalties, tied for the ninth fewest in the NFL among offensive linemen (min. 900 snaps).
