Brock Bowers lands spot on Pro Football Focus' Top 101 players list from 2024 season

Brock Bowers put himself in the conversation for being not just a top rookie in the league, but a top overall player in the league with his debut season.

Pro Football Focus (PFF) released their annual Top 101 list, giving their rankings of the top NFL players from the previous season. The Raiders' sensational tight end came in at No. 40. He was the third-highest rated rookie on the list, behind NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels.

"If not for Jayden Daniels' heroics, it would have been hard to argue against Brock Bowers for Offensive Rookie of the Year after he put up arguably the greatest rookie tight end season ever," Jim Wyman, NFL contributor for PFF, wrote. "He comfortably broke Mike Ditka's long-standing rookie tight end receiving yards record, and his 1,194 receiving yards and 112 receptions led the position.

"Only Travis Kelce was targeted more than Bowers (149 to 148), and Kelce's total was inflated from playing two additional playoff games. ... If this is what Bowers was capable of as a rookie, one shudders to imagine what he can do as he develops."

Bowers' 88.4 receiving grade is the highest recorded by a first-year tight end in the PFF era (since 2006). Along with his receiving grade, his 85.1 offensive grade was the third-highest of all tight ends in 2024, behind six-time Pro Bowler George Kittle and Arizona Cardinals' Trey McBride.

Bowers was the only rookie to be named an AP First-Team All-Pro in 2024 after ranking third in the league in receptions (112), eighth in receiving yards (1,194) and fourth in yards after catch (596) – all which ranked first among tight ends.
