BIG IMPRESSION
The Raiders lost their ninth straight game after dropping a 28-13 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite keeping the game close for more than a half, the Silver and Black could not close it out in the fourth quarter. Baker Mayfield's heroics as a passer (completing 18-of-29 passes for 295 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions) and Rachaad White's dominance as a runner (17 carries for 90 yards and a score) were too much for the Raiders to overcome playing with the third-string quarterback in the fourth quarter.
KEYS TO VICTORY
The Buccaneers dominated the game from start to finish behind an efficient offense that kept the defense guessing. Though the Raiders forced three first-half turnovers from Mayfield, the former No. 1 overall pick made amends for his miscues with a stellar second-half performance that helped the Buccaneers pull away in the fourth quarter. The Raiders deserve credit for their effort and toughness, but the overall execution from the offense and defense needed to be better to get it done against a good team.
RIDDER'S REVIEW
The Raiders' QB3 was thrust into action after a third-quarter injury to Aidan O'Connell. As an emergency fill-in, Ridder displayed impressive poise and composure, leading the offense on a scoring drive (field goal) and a 10-play close-out drive at the end of the contest. The veteran completed 12-of-18 throws for 101 yards, including a 25-yard toss to Brock Bowers and a 20-yard flip to Jakobi Meyers.
UNSUNG HERO
Tre'von Moehrig enjoyed one of the best games of his career against the Buccaneers. The fourth-year pro finished with eight tackles, three passes defensed, a half-sack and a fumble recovery. The spectacular stat line reflects an impressive individual effort that showcased his versatility and disruptive potential as a designated playmaker near the line of scrimmage.
OFFENSIVELY SPEAKING
The Raiders offense continues to show promise under the direction of interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner. The unit has improved its execution and displayed better balance under a crafty play-caller intent on featuring the team's top playmakers (Bowers, Meyers and Michael Mayer). Though the running game did not fare well against the Buccaneers (25 rushing attempts for 91 rush yards), the commitment to the run forces opponents to respect a balanced approach from the Silver and Black.
DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING
The Raiders could not contain the Buccaneers' well-choreographed offense. Part of the struggles could be attributed to the team's inability to disrupt Mayfield's rhythm as a passer after he settled down after halftime. Mayfield picked apart the defense with various quick-rhythm throws to six different pass catchers on various drop-back and play-action concepts. With the running game also posing problems with White running wild on the perimeter, the Raiders defense could never seize control of the game.
