The Raiders recorded a season-high in takeaways against the Buccaneers in Week 14 but it wasn't enough to erase an early 14-point deficit on Sunday.
Here are some key takeaways and metrics from the loss to Tampa Bay.
Takeaways and Sacks Keep It Close
The Buccaneers went up 14-0 with 3:52 left in the first quarter but didn't score again until 8:47 remained in the game. The Raiders held Tampa Bay scoreless for six straight possessions during that time.
The Raiders recorded four sacks against Tampa Bay, three of which came in the first half. The team now has nine sacks in the past two games, tied for their most over a two-game stretch since Weeks 10-11 of the 2019 season (10 sacks).
The Raiders also reeled in two interceptions and recorded their first forced fumble of the season. The three takeaways are a season high and all came in the second quarter.
"Second quarter, these guys kind of focused, dialed in," Head Coach Antonio Pierce said Monday morning. "I thought they did a great job competing. You saw the defense there were three turnovers, and then offense finally got going a little bit. And look, we're going into half 14-10 with the ball. And the third quarter, we had the ball for whatever it was, 10-plus minutes down inside the 10-yard line with an opportunity to be down by one or take the lead."
Too Little, Too Late
While the Raiders were able to cut an early 14-point deficit down to four by halftime, they never got closer as the Bucs pulled away for a 15-point victory.
Their inability to finish drives with touchdowns was a major factor in playing from behind. Over the final three quarters, the Raiders moved the ball past the Bucs 45-yard line on seven of their nine possessions, but only came away with 13 points.
The Raiders have scored multiple touchdowns before the start of the fourth quarter in only one game this season – the Week 4 win over Cleveland.
It's something Pierce hopes to clean up over the final four games of the regular season.
"We've just got to finish and that's been kind of our theme this year, right?," he said. "Getting down all the way into the red zone, inside the five and then pump the brakes and it doesn't go our way. So, we've got to continue to work on that, which we'll do this week."
Ridder steps in for O'Connell
The Raiders' revolving door at quarterback continued on Sunday as Aidan O'Connell left the game late in the third quarter with a leg injury, the extent of which is still being evaluated, per Pierce. Desmond Ridder played the rest of the way in his place, completing 12-of-18 passes for 101 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. It marked the seventh game this season that multiple quarterbacks have appeared in a game for the Silver and Black.
O'Connell finished 11-of-19 for 104 yards and one interception.
With a Monday Night Football game slated for Week 15, the Raiders will have an extra day to assess the health of their quarterback room and determine a starter.
