Gardner Minshew II has been named the Raiders' starting quarterback for the 2024 season, Head Coach Antonio Pierce announced Sunday morning.
"Myself, [Tom] Telesco and Luke Getsy discussed it this morning," Pierce said. "A lot of things went into it. It wasn't based off of last night. There's a lot of factors. We feel like Gardner gives us the best opportunity to get off to a fast start."
In two preseason games (one start), Minshew has gone 16-of-33 for 212 yards and one touchdown.
Minshew, now in his sixth NFL season, joined the Silver and Black this offseason after earning a 2023 Pro Bowl selection with the Colts, where he played in all 17 games (13 starts), completing 305-of-490 passes (62.2%) for 3,305 yards, 15 touchdowns, nine interceptions and an 84.6 passer rating. He also rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on 34 attempts.
He first entered the league as a sixth-round pick (178th overall) by the Jaguars in the 2019 NFL Draft.
