Josh Jacobs has done some incredible things in his first year as a Raider, and he's making a very compelling case for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
The first-round pick out of the University of Alabama received a lot of attention prior to the 2019 NFL Draft because of his remarkable journey to the pros, but now he's making headlines because of his weekly performances.
Against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday afternoon, the talented tailback became the first rookie in Raiders history to rush for 1,000 yards. He's rewritten several records this year and this is just another one on the list. He's the 21st player in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards over his first 12 career games. Jacobs passing the millennium mark is the 16th time it's been done in franchise history, and he's done it to the tune of 4.8 yards per carry.
Being the humble individual that he is, Jacobs always makes sure to give credit to the offensive linemen and his fullback who block in front of him, but he earns a lot of difficult yards after contact on his own. He's currently fifth in the NFL in yards after contact with 715 through 12 weeks of action. While most running backs won't drive their shoulders into a defender, Jacobs' relentless physicality is one of Head Coach Jon Gruden's favorite things about him.
During his first performance against the Chiefs, Jacobs rushed 12 times for 99 yards against the Raiders' division-rival, and so far this afternoon he's well on his way to another quality performance.
