For the first time since moving to Las Vegas, the Raiders will host two open practices at Allegiant Stadium during training camp. Practices will be held on Wednesday, August 14 and Tuesday, August 20 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:00 p.m.

Preseason games

The Raiders kick off the preseason on the road in Minnesota. They'll take on the Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. PT.

The Silver and Black then return home to Allegiant Stadium for two straight preseason matchups: versus the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. PT and versus the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. PT.

Each game will be featured locally on FOX 5 KVVU-TV and Raider Nation Radio 920AM. Nationally, every Raiders preseason game will be aired on NFL Network.

Storylines

Practice away from home

The Raiders are holding a portion of training camp away from headquarters. The team will practice in Costa Mesa, California, then head back to Intermountain Health Performance Center following the first preseason game against the Vikings.

"It's about team bonding," Head Coach Antonio Pierce said. "When I played in the National Football League, we never stayed at our facility. I was used to traveling and going away and kind of bunkered up us and 90 or 85 players at time or whatever it was. Team bonding, getting together and getting to know one another, to get away from all the distractions. It's all about ball, just ball. I want us to be the tightest group of Raiders that hopefully this organization has seen. ... I think it's just good for our team to bond, to get away, and just focus on us."

The Raiders have a history of traveling for training camp, having previously hosted it in Santa Cruz (1960-1962), Santa Rosa (1963-1984), Oxnard (1985-1995) and Napa (1996-2019).

QB competition

It's been a while since the Raiders had a true quarterback competition, but this year, all eyes are on if Aidan O'Connell or Gardner Minshew II will earn the QB1 role.

O'Connell had an up-and-down rookie year that resulted in a 5-5 record (11 games played, 10 starts), 2,218 passing yards and a 12:7 touchdown to interception ratio. Among quarterbacks in their first 10 career starts in Raiders history, O'Connell ranks second in passing yards (2,143) – only behind Marc Wilson (2,319). His 61.5 completion percentage also ranks second in franchise history among QBs in their first 10 career starts – behind Ken Stabler (63.9%).

Minshew has been a bit of a journeyman since he was drafted in 2019. Last season with Indianapolis Colts, he started 13 games after rookie Anthony Richardson suffered a season-ending injury. Minshew earned his first Pro Bowl nod, finishing with a 7-6 record, 3,305 passing yards and a 15:9 touchdown to interception ratio.

Roster reduction date

All teams are required to trim their rosters from 90 players to 53 by 1 p.m. PT on August 27.
