Raiders add five assistant coaches

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have hired the following five assistants as part of Head Coach Jon Gruden's staff, the club announced Thursday.

Buckner: Joins for his first season with the Raiders after spending the 2018 campaign on staff as the defensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers…Served in the same capacity for five seasons (2013-17) with the Arizona Cardinals, where he began his professional coaching career…Spent time as a training camp coaching intern with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2010-12…Prior to the NFL, was head coach of the Northside Christian Academy in Charlotte, N.C. …Began his coaching career as a defensive coordinator for Victory (N.C.) Academy in 2007…Played 12 years in the NFL after being selected in the second round (50th overall) by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1994 NFL Draft…As a defensive lineman, spent time with the Steelers (1994-96), Cincinnati Bengals (1997), San Francisco 49ers (1998-2000) and Carolina Panthers (2001-06), appearing in 174 games and making 127 starts.

Johnson: Enters his first season with the Raiders after spending the past 13 among the collegiate ranks…Returned for his second stint at Ohio State in 2018, serving as the school's cornerbacks/special teams coordinator…Spent 2017 as defensive coordinator at Temple…Worked three seasons (2014-16) at Purdue as defensive backs coach…Worked with defensive backs at Arkansas in 2013 after his role as assistant head coach/linebackers coach upon his arrival in 2012…Began his first stint with Ohio State in 2007, where he spent five seasons working as cornerbacks coach…Served as assistant head coach/defensive coordinator for Miami (Ohio) from 2005-06…Made his NFL debut in 2004 with the Cleveland Browns as a special teams coach…Mentored the linebackers at Miami (Ohio) for four seasons (2000-03)…Worked as a graduate assistant at Notre Dame in 1999…At Millikin, spent three seasons (1996-98) in the role of defensive coordinator/linebackers coach…Began his coaching career at his alma mater, Wittenberg, where he spent two years (1994-95) working with the defensive line.

Morton: Enters his 17th season as an NFL coach and ninth with the Silver and Black…Most recently worked with the New York Jets in 2017 as the club's offensive coordinator…In his second stint with the New Orleans Saints, worked as the team's wide receivers coach from 2015-16, after working as an offensive assistant/passing game coach in 2006…Coached for the San Francisco 49ers as a wide receivers coach for four seasons (2011-14)…At USC, was offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach for his final two years (2009-10) with the program after beginning as a passing game coordinator/wide receiver coach for his first two years (2007-08) with the Trojans…Had a one-year stint with the San Diego Chargers in 2005 as a passing game/wide receivers coach…Began his coaching career with the Oakland Raiders, spending eight years (1997-2004) with the club…Elevated to tight ends coach for his final year with the Raiders in 2004, after serving as senior offensive assistant from 2002-03…Worked as an offensive quality control/ wide receivers coach for the club from 2000-01, and as an offensive assistant and wide receivers coach the previous two years (1998-99) as part of Head Coach Jon Gruden's staff…Began in the personnel department with the Raiders in 1997 during his inaugural year in the NFL.

Neibel: Begins his second stint with the Raiders, after spending the previous two seasons (2017-18) with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an athletic performance specialist/physical therapy assistant…Before working with the Jaguars, spent six seasons (2011-16) with the Atlanta Falcons…Served as an athletic performance manager during his last year with the club in 2016…Was the Falcons' head strength and conditioning coach from 2013-15, after spending his first two years (2011-12) with the club as a strength and conditioning assistant…Spent time in MLB working with the San Francisco Giants as a strength and conditioning consultant from 2009-10…In his first tour with the Raiders, spent six seasons (2003-08) as a strength and conditioning/sports medicine associate.

Wilson: Joins the Raiders for his 26th year coaching running backs, including 21 years in the NFL…Finished his one-year stint in his return to Arizona in 2018, after previously coaching in the same capacity for the Cardinals from 2004-06…Prior to his return to Arizona, spent two seasons (2016-17) with the Cleveland Browns as the run game coordinator/running backs coach…Coached running backs for the Minnesota Vikings (2014-15), Pittsburgh Steelers (2007-13) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-03) with Head Coach Jon Gruden…Spent one year on staff at USC as the school's wide receivers coach in 2001…Prior to his return to the college ranks, coached running backs for the Washington Redskins (2000) and New England Patriots (1997-99)…Mentored the running bucks at Iowa State for two seasons from 1995-96…Worked as a secondary coach during his tenure at Wyoming (1993-94)…Worked two years at Southern Illinois, serving as a passing game coordinator in 1992 after coaching the linebackers in 1991…First began working with running backs during his two-year stay with Los Angeles Southwest College in his role as quarterbacks/running backs coach…Began his career at Pasadena Community College as a wide receivers coach in 1985.
