Since the Oakland Raiders were approved for relocation to Las Vegas in late March, much has been made about what the Silver and Black will bring to the local community on the field.
They'll be The City Of Light's second professional team, bringing a championship pedigree to Southern Nevada in the process.
However, as Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently wrote, the Raiders impact will not only be felt on the field, but off of it as well.
"The impact of the Raiders' relocation on Las Vegas is as much about football as Las Vegas is about the Strip," wrote Gehlken. "There is more to it than that. The package deal includes community events like the one defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. oversaw Saturday with help from coaches, defensive rookies and veterans such as running back Marshawn Lynch."
Gehlken wrote up the piece after attending the clinic put on by defensive coordinator Ken Norton, Jr., at the team's Alameda, Calif., facility, where Norton himself spoke about the impact the Silver and Black will have on a whole generation of football fans.
"There's a whole generation of people who never have had a [pro] football team in their city," Norton said. "These are the things they can get exposed to: Young people just like them striving to do something with themselves, find their passion. These players have found their passion. But their passion here is football. There are other passions they can find."
