Thursday, the Oakland Raiders will trade an Organized Team Activity (OTA) Day for an opportunity to give back to the community as eight local high school football teams will participate in the inaugural Raiders U 7-on-7 tournament at the Raiders Alameda Facility.
Members of the Raiders will be joined by student-athletes and coaches from Castlemont, Kennedy, San Lorenzo, Encinal, Castro Valley and Dublin High Schools, Madison Park Academy and Oakland Military Institute.
Raiders players will serve as coaches as participants will have the chance to interact and learn from the pros during the competition. Raiders coaches will serve as game officials. After the tournament, Raiders players will speak to the student-athletes about life lessons they have learned through football and conduct a Q-and-A.
Providing teenagers with the opportunity to learn from some of their heroes could benefit them greatly, both on and off the field. This will wrap up the tenth and final day of OTAs. The Raiders will kick off Mandatory Mini-Camp June 12, and finish June 14.
