Por segunda temporada consecutiva los Raiders se vieron al frente por múltiples posesiones ante los Jefes en el segundo cuarto de su primer enfrentamiento del año, pero Patrick Mahomes logró comandar a la ofensiva de Kansas City para remontar el déficit en el que se encontraban, derrotando a los Raiders en esta ocasión por marcador final de 31-17.
"Sabía que en algun punto los campeones del mundo (Jefes), Patrick (Mahomes) y esos chicos iban a comenzar a hacer jugadas", dijo el entrenador en jefe interino Antonio Pierce. "Obviamente es un trabajo colectivo. No solo es la defensa, tambien es la ofensiva y equipos especiales. Conforme avanzó el partido, por cuatro cuartos ellos se convirtieron en el mejor equipo. Nosotros tuvimos un buen cuarto aquí y allá, pero con el progreso del juego hay una razón por la que Patrick Mahomes es el mejor mariscal de campo en el deporte y Kelce está ahí, pero necesitamos hacer un mejor trabajo parando a ambos jugadores. Tuvimos oportunidades a la ofensiva donde pudimos haber hecho jugadas y no lo hicimos de nuevo. Todo se reduce a la ejecución y necesitamos ser mejores en ello".
La ofensiva de Las Vegas abrió el marcador en la primera serie del juego moviendo el balón 74 yardas en 9 jugadas, culminando con un pase anotador de Aidan O'Connell a Jakobi Meyers. La defensa negro y plata no permitió puntos en las dos ocasiones que Kansas City tuvo el ovoide durante el primer cuarto, con los Malosos capitalizando para extender su ventaja a 14-0 con un acarreo anotador de 63 yardas de Josh Jacobs, el más largo para los Raiders en la actual campaña. Lamentablemente, el conjunto negro y plata no logró encontrar las diagonales de nueva cuenta. Entre los últimos siete juegos, los Raiders solo han anotado dos touchdowns ofensivos en la segunda mitad. Por su parte, los Jefes se metieron a la zona de anotación cuatro veces en sus siguientes cinco series ofensivas.
"Definitivamente no jugamos lo suficientemente bien en la segunda mitad", declaró el mariscal de campo Aidan O'Connell. "Intentamos continuar con nuestro ataque terrestre porque tuvimos éxito con él, pero despues tuvimos varios 'tres y fuera' y es difícil hacerlo frente a este equipo (de Kansas City). Mantuvimos a nuestra defensa en el campo demasiado tiempo. Necesitamos hacer un mejor trabajo sosteniendo (series ofensivas) y hacer una mejor labor ejecutando en la segunda mitad".
Los Raiders tuvieron una oportunidad de extender su ventaja durante su segunda serie ofensiva, pero teniendo cuarta y una en la yarda 12 de Kansas City, el staff de coacheo negro y plata decidió ir por el intento de gol de campo de 30 yardas que Daniel Carlson acabó fallando. Previo a este yerro, Carlson había conectado 45 patadas de un máximo 30 yardas. A pesar de ser poco yardaje el necesario para mover las cadenas, los Malosos quisieron sumar puntos que parecían seguros en lugar de ser agresivos y esa apuesta no les funcionó en esta ocasión.
"Aprendes cada semana las cosas que hubieras hecho diferente", aseguró Pierce. "Estabamos moviendo el balón (a la ofensiva), la defensa había conseguido una parada y nos quisimos ir al frente 10-0, pero fallamos (el gol de campo). No vamos a cuestionar (nuestra decisión), entramos al partido con la mentalidad de que en las oportunidades que tuviéramos de anotar puntos lo haríamos y no tomaríamos las decisiones que hicimos la semana pasada (en Miami), esta semana era el poner puntos en el marcador."
El ala defensiva Maxx Crosby había estado listado como 'En Duda' debido a una lesión de rodilla que no le permitió entrenar durante la semana, pero se convirtió en el primer jugador durante la actual temporada en jugar a pesar de haber sido listado de dicha forma en el reporte de lesionados. Crosby consiguió la única captura de mariscal de campo del partido para los Malosos, llegando a 11.5 durante la actual campaña. Pero la defensa no pudo generar una pérdida de balón, primera vez en los últimos cinco juegos donde no lograron robarle el ovoide a su rival.
Aidan O'Connell protege el balón de manera efectiva, marcando el juego ante Kansas City la primera vez en su carrera en la NFL donde evita perder el ovoide. El novato egresado de la Universidad de Purdue completó 23 pases para 248 yardas y una anotación. Davante Adams acumuló 5 recepciones para 73 yardas, todas en la primera mitad al ser blanqueado durante los últimos dos cuartos. Jakobi Meyers sumó 6 recepciones para 79 yardas y su touchdown número 6 por medio de vía aérea, igualando su marca personal en recepciones anotadoras durante una temporada. Por su parte, Josh Jacobs llegó a los triples dígitos en producción terrestre con 20 acarreos para 110 yardas y una anotación.
Los Raiders ahora ingresan con marca de 5 victorias y 7 derrotas a su semana de descanso, en la cual buscarán que jugadores estrellas del equipo como Maxx Crosby y Kolton Miller se recuperen de sus lesiones de cara al tramo final de la temporada que continuará con dos partidos como locales en un lapso de cinco días: en primera instancia recibiendo a los Vikingos de Minnesota el domingo 10 de Diciembre y posteriormente siendo anfitriones de los Cargadores de Los Ángeles el 14 de Diciembre.
