Cardinals Defeat Raiders in Oakland

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. CB TJ Carrie fielded the opening kickoff and returned it 17 yards to the 14. The Cardinals held the Raiders to a three-and-out. WR Tedd Ginn Jr., fumbled P Marquette King's punt but recovered at the Arizona 42.

The Raiders gave up one first down before forcing a 4th and 3 at the Oakland 40. Carrie broke up QB Carson Palmer's pass and the Raiders took over on downs. QB Derek Carr's 3rd down screen pass was batted down and the Raiders went three and out. FB Jamize Olawale downed King's second punt of the day at the Cardinals 12.

Palmer capped the 11-play, 88-yard drive with a 2-yard TD pass to RB Stepfan Taylor. The PAT was good and the Cardinals took a 7-0 lead with 1:47 left in the first quarter.

K Chandler Catanzaro's ensuing kickoff flew out of the back of the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. The Raiders drive stalled at midfield and the Cardinals took over at the 14 after a King punt and a Ginn fair catch.

The Cardinals next drive came to an end when S Usama Young sacked Palmer on 3rd and 10. Carrie returned P Drew Butler's 54-yard punt all the way to the Arizona 12, but the play was wiped out by an illegal block in the back penalty. The Raiders started their next drive at the Oakland 15. The Raiders went three and out thanks to a 3rd and 8 sack by LB Larry Foote resulting in a loss of 9. Ginn called for and made a fair catch at the 50.

Palmer connected with WR Michael Floyd for a 33-yard TD strike and the Cardinals took a 14-0 lead with 5:37 left in the 2nd quarter.

Carrie returned the ensuing kickoff 26 yards to the 21 and was shaken up on the play. A 55-yard pass from Carr to WR Brice Butler gave the Raiders 1st and goal at the 3. The Raiders exploded for 10 points in the waning moments of the 2nd quarter with a 1-yard TD run by RB Darren McFadden and a 29-yard Janikowski field goal. The Cardinals led 14-10 with 45 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. The field goal was set up by FS Charles Woodson 20th interception as a Raider, 58th career.

The Cardinals got the ball to start the 3rd quarter. The Raiders defense forced a punt after allowing one first down. Butler's punt rolled out of bounds at the Raiders 16. The Cardinals forced the Raiders to settle for a 53-yard Janikowski field goal which cut Arizona's lead to 14-13 with 7:17 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Cardinals answered with an 80-yard TD drive capped by a 4-yard Taylor TD run. The PAT was good and Arizona led 21-13 with 2:55 left in the 3rd quarter.

Carrie fielded the ensuing kickoff deep in the end zone and took a knee for a touchback. The Raiders drive stalled at midfield and King came on to punt. Ginn called for and made a fair catch at the Arizona 13.

The Cardinals next drive stalled at the Raiders 48. WR Denarius Moore returned the punt to the Oakland 15. The Raiders drive stalled at the 34 and King came on to punt. Ginn returned the punt to the Arizona 27.

The Cardinals moved into Raiders territory, inside the 25 and essentially ran out the clock. A 41-yard FG put the Cardinals up 24-13 with 29 seconds left.

The Raiders fall to 0-6 on the season and travel to Cleveland next week to take on the Browns.
