ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed fifth-round draft pick DT Maurice Hurst, the club announced Wednesday.
Hurst was selected 140th overall by the Raiders in the 2018 NFL Draft. Hurst appeared in 46 games and made 17 starts during his career at Michigan, totaling 133 tackles (64 solo), 12.5 sacks, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one blocked kick. A four-year letterman from 2014-17, the 6-foot-1, 291-pound Hurst also garnered Academic All-Big Ten Conference honors four times.
A native of Canton, Mass., Hurst totaled 61 tackles (25), a career-best five sacks and two passes defensed, while adding one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries as a fifth-year senior. His play in 2017 earned him Consensus All-American and All-Big Ten First Team honors, while he also finished as a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award and was named the winner of the school's Bo Schembechler Award, an honor given annually to the team's Most Valuable Player.
