- Usama was born in the North East section of Washington D.C. and later attended Kent State where he started 37 of 45 games and finished his career as a Golden Flash with 198 total tackles.
- While he was growing up, he worked at both RFK Stadium and FedEx Field as a lemonade and cotton candy vendor.
- When his collegiate career ended, Young was drafted in the third round (66th overall) of the 2007 draft by the New Orleans Saints and was a member of the team that won Super Bowl XLIV.
- Usama is very active in the community, having established the Usama Young Youth Foundation as well as the "Young's Youth" season-ticket program.
- His foundation hosts an annual youth football and cheer camp in Maryland.
