Jones Likes What He Sees in Carr

**

On Derek Carr being named the starting QB:**

Jones:"To be honest with you, you never know what to expect. To be honest with you, all three of those quarterbacks played their tails off, so either way he [Head Coach Dennis Allen] went, I felt like it was going to be a good move for our football team. Matt [Schaub] came in here and did a great job. We support all our quarterbacks. DC [Derek Carr] is behind and center right now and we're going to support him. We're going to go out there. We're going to go make plays for him and hopefully he takes advantage of his opportunities."

Q: As a rookie is he [Carr] further along than you would expect a rookie to be at this point?

Jones:"Definitely. I was talking to a couple of the guys actually on Thursday when we played. I was saying, even if he were to come out there and threw five interceptions, he's real calm, real cool in the pocket. He really acts like he's been there before. When you see a rookie come in like that and he's able to handle himself like that, he's ready to play. Whether he's a quarterback or a wide receiver or whatever, he looked ready to play."

Q: Did last week's performance surprise you at all?

Jones:"No, it didn't surprise me at all. I've been calling him Baby A-Rod since he got here. I used to train with DC out in Fresno, so I've been calling him Baby A-Rod even when he was in college. He throws it natural, so I hope he takes advantage of his opportunity, but like I said before, we had a real good quarterback competition, and he won it."
