The Oakland Raiders have released their first depth chart of 2016 as the team prepares to open the regular season Sunday afternoon against the New Orleans Saints.
Let's look at some notable takeaways from the initial depth chart:
-Menelik Watson earns the nod at right tackle after battling it out with fellow tackle Austin Howard throughout training camp and the preseason. Howard is now listed as the second string right tackle.
-Latavius Murray is your starting running back to start the 2016 campaign. Backing him up will be running back Taiwan Jones, followed by a pair of rookies, DeAndré Washington and Jalen Richard.
-After a quality training camp and preseason, veteran safety Nate Allen is now listed as the Raiders starting strong safety. In the team's previous unofficial depth chart he was listed as the second string free safety behind Reggie Nelson.
-Defensive tackle Dan Williams is now listed as the starter, paired with defensive tackle Justin 'Jelly' Ellis in the middle of the defensive line. With Williams' elevation, combined with Mario Edwards Jr.'s assignment to the reserve/injured list, rookie defensive lineman Jihad Ward is now listed as a starting defensive end in tandem with Khalil Mack.
-The return jobs will be handled by the incumbents from last season, as Taiwan Jones will handle the kick return duties and TJ Carrie will return punts.
-With Marcel Reece suspended for the first three games of the regular season, Jamize Olawale is the lone fullback listed on the roster.
