Q&A with Kaluka Maiava

Q: How does it feel to be back?

Maiava: Felt really great. I've been tired of being locked up in the training room and I felt like I had a lot of catching up to do with my teammates. They've been grinding this whole camp and I've been feeling left out and kind of letting them down, so felt real great to be back, moving around, and get the season started.

Q: Did you kind of have to accelerate your rehab or push it?

Maiava: Definitely, no one enjoys being hurt, so I tried to knock it out as quickly as possible to get back on the field. It felt pretty good today and we'll go from there.

Q: It's tough with such a small window that you're able to work out to get ready for the regular season. This isn't your first rodeo, but talk about the difficulties?

Maiava: It's very difficult. I've never really been hurt like this during training camp. I've never really missed this amount of time, but it is what it is. I can't make any excuses, just have to stay on top of my rehab, stay on top of the playbook and when I get back out there on game day, I have to make plays.

Q: Have they narrowed it down to which side they'd like you to focus on with such a short period?

Maiava: Not yet. Like I said before, I'll play any position to help the team win so we'll see what happens.

Q: When you first went out, were you worried that it was much worse than it was?

Maiava: Yeah definitely. You always have that on the back of your mind, but fortunately, it wasn't and just a minor injury and I'm back now, ready to play.

Q: Dennis Allen said they're going to see how you look through the week. I know it's the coach's decision, but do you feel like you could play this Thursday?

Maiava: Yeah, definitely. We all want to play. Like I said, we hate being hurt. If I had my choice, I could play, I would have played last week, but it's just the way my leg is and we'll see what happens. We'll take it day to day.

Q: How did you feel out there mentally? Did you feel like you were pretty with it?

Maiava: I had a little doubt, but as the day went on I felt pretty good, started moving around, started to sweat a little bit and I felt good at the end of the day.
