The Oakland Raiders have reinstated LB Rolando McClain to the active roster from reserve/suspended by club and promoted CB Chimdi Chekwa from the practice squad, the team announced Monday.
To make room on the roster for McClain and Chekwa, the Raiders Monday released CB Ron Bartell and FB Owen Schmitt.
McClain, suspended for two games Nov. 30 by Head Coach Dennis Allen for conduct detrimental to the team, officially moves back to the active roster. McClain is not required to return to the team until he has an opportunity to meet with Coach Allen, in Texas for his father's Monday funeral. At some point after his return, Coach Allen will meet with McClain to discuss the linebacker's role.
Chekwa, whose name is pronounced CHIM-dee CHECK-wah, joined the Raiders as the team's fourth-round draft pick in 2011 and saw action in four games with one start for the Silver and Black last season. The 6-foot, 194-pound Ohio State product was waived by the Raiders on Sept. 1 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 3.
The Raiders Monday also re-signed S Akwasi Owusu-Ansah to the practice squad.
