NAPA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have claimed RB George Atkinson III via waivers from the Cleveland Browns, the club announced Saturday.

Atkinson III was originally signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in May 2014 and spent parts of three seasons with the Silver and Black before being waived and picked up by the Browns in September 2016. For his career, Atkinson III has appeared in 21 games, totaling seven carries for 34 yards and one touchdown. As a returner, he has posted 15 kickoff returns for 271 yards.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder attended Granada High School in Livermore, Calif., before playing collegiately at Notre Dame. His father, George Atkinson, Jr., played for the Raiders for 10 seasons from 1968-77, helping lead the Silver and Black to the Super Bowl XI title.
