Raiders Drop Jaguars 19-9 in Home Opener

The Oakland Raiders defeated the Jacksoville Jaguars 19-9 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland. RB Darren McFadden carried the ball 19 times for 129 yards, FB Marcel Reece scored a touchdown on an 11-yard run and the defense sacked Jaguars QB Chad Henne five times.

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half. WR Stephen Burton fielded K Sebastian Janikowski's opening kickoff on one hop and downed it in the end zone for a touchback. The Jaguars started at the 20 with Chad Henne at quarterback. The Raiders held the Jaguars to a three-and-out and CB Phillip Adams dropped deep to return the punt.

Adams returned P Bryan Anger's 48-yard punt 30 yards to the Jacksonville 38, where the Raiders started with Terrelle Pryor at quarterback. FB Marcel Reece capped the 5-play, 38-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run. Janikowski's extra point was good and the Raiders took a 7-0 lead with 10:52 left in the 1st quarter.

The Raiders allowed one first down before forcing a punt. SS Tyvon Branch was shaken up on the 3rd down play prior to the punt. Adams called for and made a fair catch at the Raiders 18 after a 44-yard punt. Branch would not return due to a leg injury.

The Jaguars held the Raiders to a three-and-out and P Marquette King came on to punt. The 44-yard kick bounced out of bounds at the Jaguars 37.  The Jaguars drive stalled at the Raiders 41 and Anger came on to punt. Adams called for and made a fair catch at the Oakland 16.

The Raiders managed one first down before Jacksonville forced a King punt. CB Will Blackmon returned the 58-yard punt 5 yards to the Jaguars 13. The Jaguars drive stalled at the Raiders 9 and K Josh Scobee came on for a 27-yard field goal attempt. The kick was good and cut the Raiders lead to 7-3 with 7:45 left in the 2nd quarter.

WR/KR Jacoby Ford watched the ball bounce out of the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders started their next drive at the 20. A 27-yard Pryor scamper and a 24-yard burst from RB Darren McFadden set up a 35-yard field goal attempt. The kick was wide left and the Jaguars took possession.

Three plays later, second-year DT Christo Bilukidi dropped Henne for a 9-yard sack and Anger came on to punt. Safety Usama Young fielded the 50-yard punt and returned it to the Oakland 29. That 3rd down stop marked Bilukidi's first career sack.

The drive stalled and Janikowski came through with a 46-yard field goal to give the Raiders a 10-3 lead with 3 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.

The squib kick was fielded by an up man and time expired. The Raiders took a 10-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.After a Ford kickoff return, the Raiders mounted a scoring drive. Janikowski put the Raiders up 13-3 with a 30-yard field goal. Burton returned the ensuing kickoff to the 29. The Raiders defense forced a punt and the Silver and Black took over at the 11 after the 57-yard punt was downed.

The Jaguars forced a three-and-put and King came on to punt. After the punt was downed at the 43 and Jacksonville was called for holding, the visitors started their next drive at their own 33.

The Raiders forced a three-and-out and Anger's punt went out of bounds at the Oakland 47. Janikowski capped the drive with a 29-yard field goal that gave the Raiders a 16-3 lead with 13:49 left in the 4th quarter.

The kickoff flew out of the back of the end zone for a touchback and the Jaguars started at the 20. The Raiders forced a three-and-out and Anger came on to punt. Adams returned the punt to the Oakland 37.

Janikowski's 29-yard field goal put the Raiders up 19-3 with 6:00 left in the game. The Raiders held the Jaguars to another three-and-out thanks to a 3rd down sack by safety Usama Young. After the punt, the return and a penalty, the Raiders started at the 23.

McFadden fumbled at the end of a 27-yard run and Jacksonville recovered at the Oakland 49. Henne capped the drive with a 13-yard TD pass to TE Clay Harbor. The two-point conversion was no good and the Raiders led 19-9 with 2:53 left in the game.

WR Rod Streater recovered the onside kick at the Jaguars 45. The Raiders were unable to get anything going and King came on to punt on 4th and 9. The punt flew out of the back of the end zone for a touchback.

The Jaguars drove to the Raiders 24 but time ran out and the Raiders won the game 19-9. The Raiders improve to 1-1 on the season and head to Denver to take on the Broncos on ESPN's Monday Night Football at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
