Por primera ocasión en la pretemporada, los titulares pisaron el terreno de juego y se mostraron dominantes en ambos lados del balón.
Para iniciar el partido, los Raiders decidieron recibir la patada inicial lo cual implicó que la ofensiva tuviera posesión del balón. La semana anterior Clelin Ferrell y Johnathan Abram jugaron bastante, sin embargo, Josh Jacobs estuvo inactivo. Esta semana Jacobs tuvo la oportunidad de demostrar sus talentos. En las primeras tres jugadas del partido Jacobs acarreó el balón y demostró su fuerza y habilidad para hacer cambios de dirección y ganar yardas.
Jacobs terminó el partido con 21 yardas en 4 acarreos mientras que por su parte, Derek Carr completó dos pases de dos intentos para 27 y 13 yardas a Tyrell Williams y Ryan Grant respectivamente, este ultimo fue de anotación. El equipo logró anotar en poco más de tres minutos lo cual le agradó a Gruden quien notó que Carr hizo los ajustes necesarios y se mostró seguro en la bolsa de protección.
"Creo que se vio bien e hizo buenos ajustes," dijo Gruden después del partido. "Glennon jugó muy bien. Cambiamos el ritmo en la segunda mitad, ejecutamos jugadas diferentes con Peterman y creo que hizo un excelente trabajo moviendo el reloj y ayudándonos a salir con la victoria."
En general, los mariscales tuvieron un buen desempeño colectivo. El trio combinó para completar 21 pases de 24 intentos para 256 yardas y tres touchdowns. Carr y Glennon terminaron con un coeficiente de efectividad perfecto de 158.3 puntos mientras que Peterman terminó con porcentaje perfecto al completar 8 pases de 8 intentos.
Estos son los tipos de aportaciones que le agradan a Gruden. En el ultimo episodio de "Hard Knocks," Gruden enfatizó que era necesario una mejor ejecución y por lo visto Carr, Glennon y Peterman lo lograron en Arizona.
Aparte del buen desempeño por parte de la ofensiva, la defensiva no se quedó atrás al cerciorarse de incomodar al mariscal Kyle Murray. En tres ocasiones consecutivas en el segundo cuarto la defensiva envió carga completa en lo profundo del territorio de los Cardinals y el resultado fue un Safety, cortesía del profundo Lamarcus Joyner.
Muchos de los posibles titulares de la defensiva participaron y limitaron a la ofensiva de los Cardinals a 22 yardas totales en tres series ofensivas. La expectativa de Vontaze Burfict es que sea un jugador de impacto en medio de la defensiva considerando su familiaridad con el esquema de Paul Guenther por el tiempo en que ambos estuvieron en Cincinnati y eso fue evidente en Arizona.
"Vamos a presionar. Guenther le gusta presionar. A veces lo enseña, a veces no, pero cuando juegas ante equipos que abren la formación y te forzan a redistribuirte para que el mariscal tenga oportunidad de correr, tienes que cubrir huecos," explicó Gruden. "Tenemos que tratar y presentar diferentes formaciones, de otra manera nos harán pedazos. Creo que hicimos un buen trabajo en mezclar las formaciones y en ocasiones precisas enviamos la carga."
El Plata y Negro derrotó a los Cardinals en Arizona por un marcador de 33-26 y regresarán a Napa para sus ultimas tres practicas del campamento antes de viajar a Winnipeg, Canadá para enfrentar a los Green Bay Packers.
