CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Oakland Raiders have promoted LB Kaelin Burnett from the practice squad, the team announced Saturday. Burnett is the second player promoted to the active roster from the Raiders' practice squad this season, joining RB Jeremy Stewart.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound rookie, who wears No. 95, was in training camp with the Raiders and was signed to the team's practice squad on Sept. 1. He originally signed with the Silver and Black as a non-drafted free agent out of Nevada.
Burnett would become the 27th player acquired by new General Manager Reggie McKenzie to play for the Raiders in 2012, joining WR Rod Streater and Stewart as the third non-drafted rookie. Eleven of those 27 players have started games for the Silver and Black this year.
Should Burnett play Sunday at Cincinnati, he also would become the 11th player to make his NFL debut with the Raiders this season, joining OL Tony Bergstrom, DT Christo Bilukidi, LB Miles Burris, DE Jack Crawford, WR Juron Criner, Streater, C/G Alex Parsons, CB Brandian Ross, Stewart and LB Carl Ihenacho.
Burnett, whose first name is pronounced KAY-linn, played three years at Nevada after transferring from Delta State. As a senior, he recorded five sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
Burnett's brother, Kevin, is in his eighth NFL season and is currently a starting linebacker for the Miami Dolphins.
