The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent CB Carlos Rogers, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Monday.
The nine-year veteran joins fellow defensive back Tarell Brown as former members of the San Francisco 49ers' secondary to join the Raiders this offseason. He spent three seasons with the 49ers, starting all 48 games during his tenure. He was named to the Pro Bowl and earned second-team Associated Press All-Pro honors in 2011. His career totals with the 49ers and Washington Redskins include 126 games played with 116 starts, 503 tackles (392 solo), 17 interceptions, 109 passes defensed, one sack, four forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.
Last season, the former first-round pick started all 16 games for San Francisco, posting 59 tackles (44 solo), two interceptions and eight passes defensed. He was inactive for the 49ers' Wild Card and Divisional playoff games with a hamstring injury before returning to the lineup to face the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game. His postseason career totals include eight games played with seven starts, 39 tackles (31 solo) and six passes defensed.
Prior to joining the 49ers, the 6-foot, 192-pounder played six seasons with the Redskins, helping the team to playoff berths in 2005 and 2007.
A native of Augusta, Ga., Rogers was originally selected ninth overall by the Redskins in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Auburn. As a senior, Rogers was named a first-team All-America selection, won the Jim Thorpe Award, was a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Award and helped the Tigers to an undefeated season.
