Guard Gabe Jackson
ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed G Gabe Jackson to a five-year contract extension through 2022, the club announced Friday.
The Raiders originally drafted Jackson in the third round (81st overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State. Over his first three seasons with the club, Jackson has become one of the Silver and Black's most dependable players, appearing in 45 games with 44 starts since 2014. He has also started all 32 games for the Raiders over the last two years.
Jackson earned the starting job at left guard out of training camp in his rookie year of 2014, appearing in 13 games with 12 starts. In 528 passing plays, Jackson allowed just one sack and two quarterback pressures, ranking tied for seventh and tied for fifth among NFL guards, respectively, according to Pro Football Focus.
In 2015, the 6-foot-3, 335-pounder started all 16 games for the first time in his NFL career and finished the year without recording an accepted holding penalty. He helped the Raiders finish with a 1,000-yard rusher, 1,000-yard receiver and 3,000-yard passer in the same season for the fourth time in team history and first time since 2005.
Jackson was named a Pro Bowl alternate in 2016 after moving from left guard and starting all 16 games at right guard. He was a member of one of the league's top offensive lines, as the Raiders surrendered just 18 sacks on the season, fewest in the NFL. He also helped pave the way for 1,922 rushing yards and an average of 4.4 yards per carry, assisting an offensive unit that finished sixth in the league in total offense (373.3 yards per game).
A native of Liberty, Miss., Jackson played collegiately at Mississippi State, becoming one of the most decorated offensive lineman in school history. He started all 52 games of his career at left guard and was a two-time All-American selection and a two-time first-team All-SEC recipient.
