ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Oakland Raiders have signed RB George Atkinson III from the practice squad and placed CB Carlos Rogers on the reserve/injured list, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Saturday.
Atkinson originally signed with the Raiders as an undrafted in May 2014. He was waived at the end of training camp and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 1. The 6-foot-1 218-pounder played three years at Notre Dame, appearing in 37 games as a running back and kick returner. Atkinson posted 943 rushing yards on 153 attempts (6.3 avg.) and 10 touchdowns. As a returner, he returned 88 kickoffs for 2,136 yards and two touchdowns, setting a school record for kickoff return yards. His father, George Atkinson, Jr., played 10 seasons for the Silver and Black, helping the team to a Super Bowl XI title.
Rogers appeared in seven games, all starts, for Oakland this season, totaling 45 tackles (32 solo), three passes defensed and one forced fumble.
