The Raiders have signed free agent safety Reggie Smith.
The Oakland Raiders have signed free-agent S Reggie Smith, General Manager Reggie McKenzie announced Thursday.
Smith, entering his fifth NFL season, was in training camp with the Carolina Panthers in 2012 after spending his first four years with the San Francisco 49ers.
A 6-foot-1, 192-pound veteran out of Oklahoma, Smith has played in 45 career games with seven starts, all with San Francisco, since entering the NFL as the 49ers' third-round draft selection (75th overall) in 2008. Smith has totaled two career interceptions with seven passes defensed.
In 2012, the Panthers released Smith just prior to the regular season. He played in 16 games in each of his final two campaigns in San Francisco, recording one interception in both 2010 and 2011. He started a career-high seven games for the 49ers in 2010.
