RECAP: Raiders Handle Chiefs 26-16

The Oakland Raiders won in Kansas City for the 6th time in a row. The Raiders held RB Jamaal Charles to 4 yards on 5 carries and QB Carson Palmer threw 2 TD passes in the 2012 Regular Season Week 8, 26-16, victory.

The Raiders won the opening coin toss and elected to receive. RB Mike Goodson fielded K Ryan Succop's opening kickoff in the end zone and took a knee for a touchback. QB Carson Palmer went deep on the game's opening play and the pass was intercepted by former Raiders CB Stanford Routt and returned to the Oakland 44. The Raiders held the Chiefs to a three-and-out and P Dustin Colquitt's punt was fair caught by CB Phillip Adams at the Raiders 6.

The Raiders drive stalled (8 plays, 76 yards) and K Sebastian Janiwowski came on and drilled a 36-yard field goal to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead with 9:51 left in the 1st quarter.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff was fielded 9 yards deep in the end zone and downed for a touchback. After allowing one first down, the Raiders forced a Succop punt. Adams returned the punt 5 yards the Oakland 17.

The Chiefs held the Raiders to a three-and-out and P Shane Lechler came on. CB Javier Arenas returned Lechler's 43-yard punt 13 yards to the Chiefs 49. A few plays later, S Matt Giordano picked off a QB Brady Quinn pass and returned it 21 yards to the Chiefs 45.

The Raiders drive stalled at the 17. Janikowski gave the Raiders a 6-0 lead with a 35-yard field goal with 14:44 left 2nd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff was fielded and downed in the end zone for a touchback. Matt Cassel entered the game at quarterback for an injured Brady Quinn. The Chiefs drive stalled at the Raiders 12 and Succop came on for a field goal attempt. The 30-yard kick cut the Raiders lead to 6-3 with 10:21 left 2nd quarter.

Goodson returned the ensuing kickoff 23 yards to the Raiders 20. The Raiders went three-and-out and Lechler came on to punt. Arenas returned the punt to the Chiefs 46. The Chiefs were forced to settle for a Succop field goal attempt thanks to LB Philip Wheeler sack on 3rd and 3. The 42-yard field goal tied the game at 6-6 with 4:12 left in the 2nd quarter.

Goodson returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 26. The Raiders drive stalled at the 49 and Lechler came on to punt. Arenas muffed the punt and two-time Pro Bowl LS Jon Condo recovered at the Chiefs 11. Three plays later, Palmer connected with WR Denarius Moore for an 9-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good and the Raiders took a 13-6 lead with 49 seconds left in the 2nd quarter.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff was fielded 5 yards deep and downed in the end zone for a touchback. The Chiefs drove to midfield but moved no further. Cassel took a knee and ran out the clock. The Raiders took a 13-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter sailed out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. The Chiefs fumbled the snap on the first play of the quarter and DT Tommy Kelly recovered at the 18. The Raiders settled for a 29-yard Janikowski field goal which gave the visitors a 16-6 lead with 13:58 left in the 3rd quarter.

RB Shaun Draughn returned the ensuing kickoff to the Chiefs 22. The Raiders forced a 52-yard Succop field goal, which cut the Silver and Black's lead to 16-9 with 8:40 left in the 3rd quarter.

Goodson fielded the ensuing kickoff in the end zone and took a knee for a touchback.  Palmer capped the 80-yard drive with a 32-yard touchdown pass to WR Darrius Heyward-Bey. The extra point was good and the Raiders led 23-9 with 5:40 left in the 3rd quarter.

A penalty wiped out a nice return on the ensuing kickoff and the Chiefs started at their own 10. The Raiders held the home team to a three and out and Adams returned the 57-yard punt 27 yards to the Chiefs 45.

The Chiefs held the Raiders to a three-and-out, Lechler's punt bounced into the end zone for a touchback and the Chiefs started at the 20. The Raiders held the Chiefs to a three and out. Adams called for and made a fair catch at the Oakland 32.

The Raiders went three and out and Arenas returned Lechler's punt to the Kansas City 24. The Raiders forced another three and out and Adams returned Colquitt's punt to the Oakland 24. The Raiders drive stalled and Janikowski kicked a 32- yard field goal with 8:14 left to give the Raiders a 26-9 lead.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff bounced into the end zone and out of bounds for a touchback. The Chiefs drive ended when CB Pat Lee picked off a Cassel pass inside the Oakland 5. The Raiders took over at the 6 with 4:48 to play.

Three straight running plays netted a total of 3 yards and Lechler came on to punt. Arenas returned the 37-yard punt to the Oakland 32. The Chiefs got into the end zone with a 10-yard TD pass to Dexter McCluster. The extra point was good and the Raiders lead was cut to 26-16 with 2:27 to play.

WR Rod Streater recovered the Chiefs onside kick attempt at the Oakland 45 with 2:26 to play. The Raiders ran out the clock and secured the victory.

The Raiders improve to 3-4 on the season and return home to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at O.co Coliseum in Oakland next Sunday.
