Por primera ocasión desde el lunes pasado, los Oakland Raiders dejaron de lado las hombreras pero la energía se mantuvo a máximo nivel.
El Plata y Negro tendrán su primer partido de la pretemporada del 2019 en una semana cuando reciban a los Rams en el Coliseo de Oakland, pero antes del dicho partido, los Raiders entrenarán dos días en conjunto con los Rams en Napa, empezando el miércoles.
La practica de hoy fue sin hombreras lo que se podría considerar una acción preventiva para la próxima semana y Derek Carr comentó la importancia de medirse ante otro equipo en una practica.
"Creo que es bueno enfrentar un esquema diferente," dijo el mariscal de los Raiders. "Lo disfruto, en especial cuando es entre dos equipos profesionales que no quieren demostrar su machismo o fuerza el uno al otro. Obviamente, el football es un deporte agresivo, pero cuando solo hay peleas y pleitos, creo que no tiene sentido, pero cuando trabajas duro, rápido, agresivo y de buena forma en contra de un esquema diferente, honestamente eso es invaluable."
Añadió, "Creo que es más valioso que un partido de pretemporada, siendo honesto. Hacer estas practicas en conjunto ves diferentes situaciones. Situación de tercera oportunidad, un poco del esquema defensivo de Wade Phillips. Te toca primera y diez en contra de su personal y ves diferentes formaciones, diferentes patrones de presione entre otras cosas. Te tocan mas jugadas y por eso para mi es que son mas valiosas que un partido de pretemporada."
Jon Gruden compartió una opinión similar el día anterior.
"Probablemente, porque los titulares participan más que lo que será en el primer partido de pretemporada, así que podremos ver como nuestros jóvenes esquineros se medirán ante sus receptores y viceversa," dijo Gruden respecto a la importancia de las practicas mancomunadas. "También veremos como nos comparamos ante los Campeones de la NFC, lo que será un gran reto para nosotros.
No solo será el hecho de que Carr se enfrentará ante los esquemas defensivos de Wade Phillips, sino que también se enfrentará al mejor liniero defensivo de la NFL, Aaron Donald. Obviamente ninguno de los dos equipos jugará a máxima potencia, pero Donald será el mejor reto que pueda enfrentar la reforzada línea ofensiva de los Raiders hasta este momento.
Donald se puede alinear donde sea en la formación, pero en particular en la parte interna, por lo cual será divertido verlo lidiar con Gabe Jackson y Trent Brown o Richie Incognito y Kolton Miller.
Si recuerdan el año pasado los Rams iniciaron la temporada visitando el Coliseo en partido de Lunes por la Noche y aunque fue una derrota para el Plata y Negro, dieron batalla en la primera mitad limitando a la ofensiva de los Rams a una ventaja de solo 13-10. Fue la primera ocasión en que Gruden se enfrentó a su pupilo Sean McVay, Entrenador en Jefe de los Rams. Los dos se conocen desde hace mucho tiempo y la reunión en Napa será nostálgica
La próxima semana será muy importante para los Raiders y la practica de hoy sin hombreras fue una forma de ayudar al equipo a recuperarse del desgaste de la semana.
