Maxx Crosby doesn't envision his expectations for himself changing much after signing a multi-year contract extension Wednesday.
As the four-time Pro Bowler always likes to say – More is Required.
"It doesn't change my approach ... I'm still going to be here same time every single day and put the work in," Crosby said. "That's just a byproduct of the sacrifice that we do on a daily basis. So when I'm retired, whenever that day is, I'll maybe go on a couple more vacations but for the time being I'm focused on being the best on the planet at what I do on-and-off the field. We have a lot to work. Obviously it's a great honor ... but my focus is on the day-to-day and that's what I'm going to continue doing."
It's a well deserved deal for Crosby, who has led the team in sacks in five of his six seasons since being drafted out of Eastern Michigan in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. His 105 career tackles for loss are the most by any defensive linemen since he's entered the league. He's also done all of this while playing 5,226 snaps since 2019, the most of any defensive lineman in that span.
Many were in attendance for the press conference to announce the extension including team president Sandra Douglass Morgan, the Raiders defensive coaching staff, his wife Rachel and their daughter Ella Rose.
Sitting to Crosby's left was General Manager John Spytek and to his right, Head Coach Pete Carroll.
"There's no way we could find anybody that is more focused and directed and committed to giving everything that he's got to every opportunity he's going to get," Carroll said. "For us to make this statement today, it's like it fits perfectly. And we're so proud to have Maxx be a part of the organization, but he knows that's just the start of it."
Spytek and Carroll have made it clear since taking over the Silver and Black that extending Crosby was a priority for the team. With an estimated $96.4 million in cap space per Over The Cap, Raiders brass clearly felt now was the time to solidify the future of the franchise.
Crosby has been a player they've both mentioned admiring from a far on their former teams, with a firm belief he'll be the foundation block in what they're trying to build.
"I think Coach and I talked a lot about setting the tone for this new era of Raiders football and I can't think of a better person to sit up here with and reward for what's he done but with an expectation of what's coming," Spytek said. "We want to grow this to a place that people want to be. And when people like Maxx, there's no secret it hasn't been sunshines and roses around here forever, but when he makes the commitment to the Raiders like this – he's stands for everything Coach and I and this new staff and everyone always talks about. He signs up for it, I think that speaks volumes and I hope it's noticed in our locker room, I hope it's noticed around the league."
While there's more benchmarks and milestones Crosby is bound to reach in a Raiders uniform, his own personal fulfillment comes from one thing.
"I truly just want to win," he said. "I don't care about all the other stuff that comes with it. Obviously, it means a lot to me, being a part of the Silver and Black and the history. I feel like I've said it a million times, I feel like I was meant to be a Raider. I love being here. I love the people. And you look at all the legends that created what this brand is, and that's winning. Ted Hendricks, Marcus Allen, Charles Woodson, the guys like that, the ones that I look up to, that's what I want to solidify. And those guys are all about winning.
"It's one thing to be a face of a franchise, but I want to be a winner. And that's truly all that matters to me. So, I know these guys are all about the same thing. The labels and all that stuff is cool, but when we're not winning, it's like, what are you the face of? I want to be the face of winning, and that's truly all that matters to me."
"And like John Spytek says," Crosby added, "'It's not about what I've done, it's about what I'm going to do,' and that's what my focus is right now."
