With their penultimate pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller.

Bringing a winning pedigree
Miller won the FCS national championship in 2021 and 2024, and led the Bison to a 45-11 record as the starting quarterback. His 45 wins rank third in FCS history.
"From every conversation that I've had with the GM, he has talked to me about how they want to bring in people that are winners and they've been accustomed and used to winning games," Miller said." I think that was really the X-factor in their choice to take me in the draft."
Over his five seasons with the Bison, Miller set school records for total offense (11,998), completion percentage (.694), pass completions (759) and passing yards (9,721), and finished second in passing attempts (1,094) and touchdowns (81). His 129 total touchdowns tied the school record while his 48 rushing touchdowns set a Missouri Valley Football Conference record for quarterbacks.
"He's a winner," Raiders director of college scouting Brandon Yeargan said when asked what stood out about Miller. "His record at North Dakota State is outstanding. He's really, really competitive, very tough, very athletic. I think when you watch the tape and when you get to meet the guy, he's got some unique qualities in terms of leadership and football character."
NDSU to NFL pipeline
Joining the likes of Carson Wentz, Trey Lance and Easton Stick in recent years, Miller is the latest North Dakota State quarterback to be taken in the NFL Draft. Given that track record of quality play at the position, winning the starting quarterback job for the Bison isn't easy. Miller knows from experience.
"I thought I was playing the best football I ever played during that time," Miller said after being beat out for the starting job ahead of the 2021 season. "I was pretty devastated for a little while. I remember conversations with my dad, just being really down on myself.
"But at the same time, I just used that as motivation to get better and prepare like I was the starter each and every week."
Miller eventually took over the starting job midway through the season and started the final 54 consecutive games of his career. He was also named a team captain in 2023 and 2024.
Realizing a life-long dream
"I think everybody has a dream of playing in the NFL, but I don't think it became a reality until about a year ago, a year and a half ago," Miller said after being drafted. "I think after my junior year, I knew that I had the intangibles to play at the next level, but I think just the confidence that I had during my senior year really elevated my mindset and having the confidence that I can play at the next level, no doubt."
Miller believes his time with the Bison will prove beneficial as he begins working with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
"I just think coming from a pro-style offense at North Dakota State, I'm accustomed to playing under center, playing in the gun, playing a pro-style offense. I think NDSU prepared me well, just with the system, doing under center play action, everything that we did in the gun I think is going to translate to the next level. I'm excited to dive into the playbook and start to understand it a little bit more."
