NAPA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have claimed CB Hamp Cheevers via waivers from the Atlanta Falcons, the club announced Sunday.

Cheevers, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound cornerback out of Boston College, joins the Raiders after originally being signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent this past May. Cheevers most recently spent a week in training camp with Falcons and appeared in the team's preseason Week 1 contest.

A native of Trenton, Fla., Cheevers played three seasons (2016-18) at Boston College, appearing in 30 games and tallying 56 tackles (36 solo), including 2.5 for loss, nine interceptions including one returned for a touchdown, 20 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. As a junior in 2018, he posted career highs in nearly every major defensive category, notching 39 stops (27), seven interceptions, 14 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery en route to All-ACC First Team honors.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have placed CB D.J. Killings on the Reserve/Injured List.
