Raiders Fall to Redskins 24-14

Rookie TE Mychal Rivera caught his first career touchdown reception, RB Rashad Jennings blocked a punt that RB Jeremey Stewart recovered for a touchdown, but it wasn't enough as the Washington Redskins defeated the Oakland Raiders 24-14 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland. Matt Flynn got the start at quarterback in place of injured Terrelle Pryor, RB Darren McFadden and FB Marcel Reece each suffered injuries in the first half and didn't finish the game.

The Raiders won the coin toss and elected to defer their choice to the second half. WR Joshua Morgan watched K Sebastian Janikowski's opening kickoff sail over his head for a touchback and the Redskins started at the 20 with Robert Griffin III at quarterback. The Raiders held Washington to a three-and-out and CB Phillip Adams returned P Sav Rocca's 51-yard punt to the Oakland 36. Matt Flynn started at quarterback.

The Redskins allowed one first down before forcing a punt. P Marquette King's 38-yard punt was downed at the Washington 10.  The Raiders forced a three-and-out and Rocca came on to punt. RB Rashad Jennings blocked the punt and RB Jeremy Stewart recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. Janikowski's extra point was good and the Raiders led 7-0 with 10:40 left in the first quarter.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff bounced off the crossbar for a touchback and the Redskins started at the 20. The Raiders allowed one first down before forcing a Rocca punt on 4th and 7 at the Washington 38. Adams called for and made a fair catch at the Oakland 19.

Flynn led a 10-play, 81-yard drive that he capped with an 18-yard touchdown pass to rookie TE Mychal Rivera. The catch marked Rivera's first career NFL touchdown. The extra point was good and the Raiders led 14-0 with 3:06 left in the 1st quarter.

Janikowski's ensuing kickoff went for a touchback and the Redskins started at the 20. The Redskins drove deep into Raiders territory but settled for a short K John Potter field goal attempt. The 25-yard field goal was good and Washington cut the Raiders lead to 14-3 with 14:21 left in the 2nd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff was fielded for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. A few plays later, CB David Amerson picked off a Flynn pass and raced 45 yards for the touchdown. The extra point was good and the Raiders lead was trimmed to 14-10 with 10:59 left in the 2nd quarter.

WR Jacoby Ford returned the ensuing kickoff 25 yards to the Oakland 19. The Raiders went three-and-out and King came on to punt. The Raiders executed a fake punt with CB Taiwan Jones taking the snap and racing 19 yards around left end for the first down. The Raiders were still forced to punt and the Redskins took over at the 20 after a touchback.

The Redskins faced 4th and 3 at the Raiders 39. FS Charles Woodson sacked Griffin and the Raiders took over at their 49.  A few plays later, Flynn was sacked on 3rd down and King came on to punt. RB Chris Thompson returned the 46-yard punt to the Washington 19.

The Redskins went three-and-out and the Raiders took a time out with 1:11 left in the 2nd quarter. Ford called for and made a fair catch at the Oakland 32. The Raiders were unable to score and took a 14-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Potter's opening kickoff of the second half went for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. The teams exchanged three-and-outs and punts. The Raiders started the second drive of the second half at the 37 after a Ford punt return.

The Raiders were unable to get anything going and King came on to punt. King's punt rolled out of bounds at the Redskins 11. A few plays later LB Kevin Burnett recovered a TE Logan Paulson fumble at the Redskins 42.

The Raiders were forced to settle for a 52-yard FG attempt, which was no good, wide left, and the Redskins took over at their 42. Griffin capitalized on the good field position when he hit WR Pierre Garcon with a 5-yard TD pass. The extra point was good and the Redskins took a 17-14 lead with 2:58 left in the 3rd quarter.

The ensuing kickoff went through the end zone for a touchback and the Raiders started at the 20. The Raiders managed one first down before the Redskins forced a punt. The 47-yard punt was downed at the Redskins 36.

The Redskins drove to the Raiders 41 before the Raiders forced a punt. Adams called for and made a fair catch at the Raiders 14. The Raiders managed one first down before the Redskins forced a punt. King's 48-yard punt bounced out of bounds at the Washington 24.

The Raiders forced a three-and-out. Ford fielded the bouncing punt and returned it to the Oakland 30. A promising drive ended when Flynn was sacked and fumbled. Washington recovered at the Raiders 42. The Redskins took advantage as RB Roy Helu ran it in from 14 yards out. The extra point gave the Redskins a 24-14 lead with 6:59 left in the game.

Stewart returned the ensuing kickoff to the Raiders 29. The Raiders drove into Redskins territory and Flynn fumbled a quarterback sneak. Only Flynn was allowed to recover by rule and the Redskins took over on downs.

The Raiders allowed one first down before forcing a punt. Rocca's boot went out of bounds at the Raiders 30 with 21 seconds left. The Raiders were unable to score and the Redskins claimed victory, 24-14.

The Raiders fall to 1-3 on the season and host the San Diego Chargers in Week 5 action.
