ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed LB Perry Riley Jr.and placedLB Ben Heeney on the Reserve/Injured List, the club announced Tuesday.
Riley Jr. joins the Raiders after six seasons with the Washington Redskins, where he played in 79 games with 63 starts and totaled 437 tackles (257 solo), 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, three interceptions and 26 passes defensed. In 2013, Riley Jr. led the team with 112 tackles and posted a career-high eight passes defensed to go along with three sacks. Last season, he started nine games and recorded 43 tackles and two interceptions.
The 6-foot, 240-pounder was originally drafted in the fourth round (103rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of LSU. He played in 47 games with 22 starts for the Tigers, totaling 185 tackles (88 solo), two sacks, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
Additionally, the Raiders have signed LB James Cowser to the practice squad and released DL Demetrius Cherry and LB Darnell Sankey from the practice squad.
