Defensive Tackle Treyvon Hester
With their final pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders selected a defensive player once again, this time University of Toledo defensive tackle Treyvon Hester.
Here are five things you should know about him:
He led his team in sacks last season.
As a former Rocket, Hester had a bounce-back senior campaign where he led the team in sacks with 5.5, also adding 39 tackles, and eight tackles for loss.
Hester is familiar with Raider Nation.
"It's a historic franchise," said Hester. "I'm born and raised in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, so I know about football. I was raised around football and I know about the Raider Nation. I know about the fans, the fan atmosphere down there. I know that it's crazy, I know that they love their team and I'm just ready to come out there and bleed for them."
He only missed the all-conference squad once.
His junior season, Hester wasn't named to the all-conference squad, but used the slight as a motivating tool. He dropped 20 pounds and came back for his senior season better than ever. His output last season earned him a spot on the All-MAC Second-Team, which was voted on by league coaches.
Hester's NFL Draft profile highlights his power.
"Fairly athletic. Shows an ability to shed quickly to make tackles. Good reactive quickness allows for sudden shifts to make tackles against running backs trying to dart through gaps nearby. Highly instinctive. Keys on his man pulling and will work around the down-block coming his way to scrape and follow the play. Initial quickness laterally is solid."
He's willing to do whatever it takes to help the Raiders.
"I'm not limiting myself to any category," said Hester. "I can play anywhere on the defensive front, wherever you feel like lining me up at. Wherever my best fit is for this team, to help this defense become better, I'm ready to do it."
