NAPA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed free agent TE Brandon Barnes, the club announced Friday.
Barnes originally entered the NFL in 2017 as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State. The 6-foot-5, 256-pound tight end signed with the Detroit Lions following the 2017 NFL Draft and spent the offseason program with the club before finishing his rookie training camp with the New York Jets. Barnes spent the majority of his rookie season as a free agent, but signed to the Lions' practice squad ahead of the team's regular season finale and later signed as a reserve/future free agent with the club. Barnes has not appeared in an NFL contest and was not with a team last season after being waived before training camp.
A native of Phenix City, Ala., Barnes played four years (2013-16) at Alabama State and appeared in 38 contests with the program, compiling 29 receptions for 436 yards and added six receiving touchdowns. He recorded five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown as a senior with the Hornets, while setting personal bests in 2015 with 13 receptions for 199 yards and three touchdowns.
In a corresponding move, the Raiders have waived CB Isaiah Langley, who signed with the team this past June as an undrafted free agent.
