Raiders Stun 49ers 24-13 in Battle of the Bay

The Raiders won the toss and elected to defer their choice to the second half. K Sebastian Janikowski's opening kickoff reached the stands for a touchback and the 49ers started at the 20. Safety Brandian Ross recorded his first career interception on the first play from scrimmage and the Raiders took over at the Oakland 49. The Raiders were forced to settle for a field goal attempt. Janikowski's 57-yard field goal was good and gave the Raiders a 3-0 lead with 11:46 left in the first quarter. Janikowski's ensuing kickoff went through the end zone for another touchback. The Raiders allowed one first down before a 3rddown DE Benson Mayowa sack forced a P Andy Lee punt. CB TJ Carrie returned the 60-yard punt to the Oakland 19.

The Raiders went three and out and P Marquette King came on to punt it away to Ellington. King's 44-yard punt was downed at the San Francisco 39.  QB Colin Kaepernick capped the drive with an 8-yard TD pass to FB Bruce Miller. The PAT was good and San Francisco took a 7-3 lead with 1:54 left in the 1st quarter.

Carrie returned the ensuing kickoff 20 yards to the Oakland 26. QB Derek Carr capped the 11-play, 74-yard drive with a 3-yard TD pass to offensive tackle Donald Penn. The PAT was good and the Raiders led 10-7 with 10:45 left in the 2nd quarter.

Ellington returned the ensuing kickoff to the San Francisco 30. The 49ers settled for a K Phil Dawson 54-yard field goal.  The kick was good but a holding penalty wiped it out and Lee came on to punt. Carrie was tackled immediately at the Oakland 12.

The Raiders moved out to the 42 before the 49ers forced a punt. CB Chimdi Chekwa downed the 53-yard punt at the 49ers 5. The Raiders forced a three-and-out thanks in part to a second down sack by DT Antonio Smith. Carrie returned Lee's punt to the San Francisco 47.

The Raiders went three and out and King came on to punt. The 40-yard boot was downed at the San Francisco 9. Dawson capped the drive with a 52-yard field goal to tie the game at 10-10 with one second left in the first half. Dawson dribbled the ensuing kickoff and the teams went to the locker room at halftime tied 10-10

The Raiders went three and out to start the 3rd quarter and the 49ers started their next drive at the Oakland 46. The Raiders held the 49ers to a short field goal attempt. Dawson's 20-yard kick was good and gave San Francisco a 13-10 lead with 8:34 left in the 3rd quarter.

Carrie returned the ensuing kickoff 21 yards to the Oakland 20. Carr capped the 89-yard drive with a 9-yard TD pass to FB Marcel Reece. The PAT was good and the Raiders regained the lead, 17-13, with 4:09 left in the 3rd quarter.

Ellington returned the ensuing kickoff 36 yards to the SF 30. The Raiders held the 49ers to a three and out and Lee came on to punt. Lee's boot bounced into the end zone for a touchback.

Carr tossed his third touchdown pass of the day, a 5-yarder to TE Mychal Rivera to cap the drive. The PAT was good and the Raiders led 24-13 with 10:39 to go in the game.

Ellington returned the ensuing kickoff to the 49ers 20. The 49ers drove to the Raiders 25 before Smith dropped Kaepernick on 3rd and 8 and SF had to settle for a FG. The 47-yard attempt was no good and the Raiders took over on downs at the Oakland 37.

The Raiders were unable to mount a drive and King's 42-yard punt bounced out of bounds at the 49ers 23. A FS Charles Woodson INT after a LB Khalil Mack sack gave the Raiders the ball at the SF 28 with 2:36 to play.

The Raiders drove deep into 49ers territory. Carr slid down on 4th and goal and the 49ers took over on downs at their 15 with 28 seconds left on no time outs remaining.  

Mack's second sack of the game closed out the game and secure the victory for the Silver and Black.
