Draft Day 2 Recap: Raiders trade down twice, select four players on Friday

Rounds 2 and 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft are complete and the Raiders came away four new players – three on offense and one on defense.

Doubling down on trades

Entering Friday, the Raiders were set to make two picks – one in Round 2 at No. 37 and one in Round 3 at No. 68.

Instead, the Silver and Black traded down twice to nab a couple more picks, ultimately selecting at Nos. 58, 68, 98 and 99. Additionally, the team added a few picks for Day 3.

"The more picks the better," General Manager John Spytek said. "We turned two picks today into four and another four tomorrow. We've got five good players, we feel like. We've got six more picks tomorrow. Like Coach said, we wanted to load this roster up with young, competitive guys. Nine picks was a good start, but having 11 right now is exciting."

The terms of both trades are below:

The Raiders sent their second-round pick (37) and their fifth-round pick (143) to the Dolphins in exchange for Miami's second-round (48), third-round (98) and fourth-round (135) picks.

Later, the Raiders traded their No. 48 pick to the Texans in return for Houston's No. 58 pick in the second round and their No. 99 pick in the third round, first acquired from the New York Giants.

The last time the Raiders traded back twice in the draft in the same round was in Round 2 of the 2019 Draft. The Raiders traded pick 35 to the Jaguars for pick 38 and then traded pick 38 to the Bills for pick 40.

Spytek and Carroll discuss the new additions

The Raiders added WR Jack Bech, CB Darien Porter, OL Caleb Rogers and T Charles Grant to the roster on Friday night and now have selected five players within the top 100 picks in the 2025 Draft.

"I wouldn't have sat here yesterday and thought we could do that, but we were prepared to do it," Spytek said. "The way the board looked, it made sense to us. The value – I think if you talk to a lot of people around the league, the value was in Rounds 2 and 3. For us to have as many bolts to shoot into that one was something that we were after. I'm thankful it worked out and had the support of [Pete Carroll]. It was a spirited draft room up there."

"We wanted to create as much competition as we can," Carroll added. "That's so important to this program, particularly getting started and all that. Our players that are here know that that's coming and that's the central theme in the program. I thought to add these guys to the roster on these first couple days, fantastic. I think John did a great job."
