Player Profile: Get to know Raiders tackle Charles Grant

The Las Vegas Raiders selected offensive linemen in back-to-back picks in the third round, with Charles Grant being the team's last selection of Day 2.

Here are a few things to know about the Raiders' new tackle from William & Mary.

Dominating the competition

Grant showcased the impressive ability to block anyone and everyone that came his way in the CAA.

In 2024, he totaled a 91.2 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus and a 90.4 run blocking grade – both ranking in the top three of all tackles in the nation. The Raiders made him the second FCS player to be selected in this year's draft.

"You want to see them dominate, for a lineman control the man in front of them," John Spytek said of how he evaluated Grant. "He's such an easy athlete. ... He can move his feet, he can run into space, he can sink his hips. There's going to be a big learning curve for him like there is all these guys, but guys coming from the FCS level that are trying to get to the NFL level is a big jump. But again there's a competitive stamina to him and an appreciation for what's out in front of him that's going to help him a lot as he goes along with the athletic ability."

From the mat to the field

In high school, Grant only played one season of football and was primarily a wrestler.

As an All-State wrestler in Virginia, he was convinced by football coaches at a wrestling tournament to give the sport a try. Upon venturing onto the gridiron as a upperclassman, he became a First-Team 4A All-Eastern Region selection in 2019. After receiving his singular Division I offer to play football at William & Mary, he continued to bring the lessons learned on a wrestling mat in the trenches.

"There's obstacles I've had to overcome in wrestling," Grant said after he was drafted. "So, I used to have the mindset like, 'Hey, if I used to do wrestling, if I used to wrestle for like, four hours a day, I know I can persevere through anything I've been going through.' So, just that mental fortitude. And I'd also say my ability to move off the ball, be quick, be nimble and cut the backside off, just things like that. Having that note of how to position your body to be the best fit."

Selfless thinking

Back in 2023, Grant went through a seven-hour non-surgical procedure in efforts of saving a life.

He added himself to the national bone marrow registry and a match was identified. He was one of three Tribe players within the last decade to donate bone marrow. It also meant a lot for Grant to add himself on the registry considering the disparity of African-Americans on the list, as the donor and the recipient have to be of the same ethic background.

"I knew what I was signing up for," Grant said at the time. "It was very important to me, and I'm very glad I did it."

With the 99th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders have selected William & Mary tackle Charles Grant.
