Long snapper Jon Condo is entering his ninth season with the Oakland Raiders. The two-time Pro Bowler has carved out a niche with the Silver and Black and has become the model of consistency and professionalism. Condo has played in 128 straight games and has become one of the best long snappers in the NFL. He is also a stalwart special teams player, with 33 career special teams tackles and three fumble recoveries.
Condo and kicker Sebastian Janikowski form one of the most reliable special teams batteries in the league. Along with punter Marquette King, those responsible for kicking or holding rarely have to worry about an errant snap.
"That's the biggest thing, I want to help my teammates, I want to make their job as easy as possible so they can hone down on what they're supposed to do and make a great kick," Condo said.
He may be regarded as one of the top players at his position, but Condo doesn't rest on his laurels.
"It's about being a professional, taking your job seriously," Condo said. "That's my personality. I am a long snapper in the NFL and I want to be perfect. I compete against myself every day. It only takes one bad snap, one bad play, and you're out of this league. I take every snap that I have as serious as possible. I think that's what drives me to stay in the this league."
Condo is looking forward to working with new Special Teams Coordinator Brad Seely.
"He's a great special teams coach, he's been in the league awhile," Condo said. "He knows the game extremely well."
A consummate professional on the field, Condo is also known for his community service and support of the United States military. In fact, Condo is in the midst of a charitable campaign right now.
"Back in my hometown, there is a little girl who had cancer. She did this clinical trial three years ago, the first child to have this therapy and she's been cancer-free now for three now," Condo explained. "I teamed up with her father and her foundation, the Emily Whitehead Foundation. All the proceeds go straight to the doctors at Children's Hospital Philadelphia. We're trying to kill this deadly disease. I'm having a little drawing. I bought a pair of season tickets. Drawing will be on August 10.
For more information it's on my **Twitter feed. (@JonCondo)** If we have a good successful drive, there might be more giveaways this season. I'm just trying to do my part and give back to the community. It's the least that I can do."
Jon Condo has been nothing short of professional and excellent the better part of the last 10 years and there's no reason to think he's going to back off any time soon.
