Training Camp Notebook 8/15: Receiving corps making strides

Notes and Observations from Day 14 of Practice

Offense

  • Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew II both had their moments throughout practice of displaying accuracy in situational moments. O'Connell thrived in red zone drills, while Minshew connected on a few deep shots in team period to Kristian Wilkerson and Tre Tucker. The trio of Wilkerson, Tucker and DJ Turner seemed to dominate in the passing game Thursday, creating significant cases for themselves to earn roles alongside Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers.
  • Tyreik McAllister put together a sneaky good practice with the second and third-team offense. Usually McAllister has shined on special teams, but looked explosive with his reps out of the backfield.
  • It's a broken record now this far in camp, but once again the tight end room had another exceptional practice. Multiple catches were hauled in by the usual suspects, Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer, but Harrison Bryant and Zach Gentryalso found ways to make plays in seven-on-seven drills and team period. "This is one of the closest, [tight] knit tight end room I've been apart of so far," Bryant said. "Everyone in there is a good dude. We all get along. We all have fun."

Defense

  • Maxx Crosby gave UDFA Noah Shannon a shoutout Tuesday, crediting him for being one of the more hard-working young lineman in the room. In Thursday's night practice, the former Iowa Hawkeye proved Crosby to be right, batting down two balls at the line of scrimmage during team period.
  • Rookie Decamerion Richardson continued building upon a strong camp, going stride for stride in coverage on all of the deep shots thrown his way. "He's very athletic and you combine that with his size, then you really got exactly what you're looking for in a corner," safety Marcus Epps said. "It's been good to see him get thrown in there as well and go get some meaningful reps with us on defense."

Special Teams

  • Turner and rookie Dylan Laube continued to see majority of reps on kick and punt return. However, the practice was more predicated toward proper technique on kick and punt coverage.

Quote of the Day

I think my best attribute is that I can do a little bit of everything. Really every day, my focus is on improving on all aspects of my game because I want to be a person who can be trusted by the staff to go in and plug and play. Harrison Bryant
