The Raiders concluded their last training camp practice in Costa Mesa, California, on Wednesday.
The Silver and Black had 11 productive practices and now head into their first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. The goal is to continue building momentum and chemistry with each other once they return to Las Vegas.
"We've accomplished a lot over the last several days. ... The Raiders got better," Head Coach Antonio Pierce said. "There's a lot of things we want to accomplish and we got more to do, but we got off to a great start."
Notes and Observations from Day 11 of Practice
Offense
- Both quarterbacks got off to a good start. In red zone period, Aidan O'Connell threw a dart over the middle to Tre Tucker for a touchdown. A few plays later, Gardner Minshew II escaped the pocket to throw a touchdown to DJ Turner at the right pylon.
- Two receivers who popped out toward the end of team period were Jalen Guyton and Terrell Bynum. Both players have familiarity with General Manager Tom Telesco, who signed them as UDFAs when with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Defense
- The defense looked extraordinary as a unit from top to bottom. The charge was led by the defensive line, seeing productive pass rushing from Maxx Crosby, Christian Wilkins, Tyree Wilson and Malcolm Koonce.
- The first of four interceptions during team period came from safety Tre’von Moehrig. The throw was to Tucker in double coverage in the end zone, but Moehrig and Jack Jones were in perfect position to make a play on the ball.
- A second interception came from Isaiah Pola-Mao. The ball fell through the hands of the intended receiver and the third-year safety came up to make a play. He also had an interception in the live scrimmage from Saturday. "Really our entire safety position group has played really well," Pierce said.
- Janarius Robinson secured the first big boy pick of training camp, sprinting from the line of scrimmage to catch a ball deflected by safety Jaydon Grant. A final interception in team period came from UDFA Woo Governor.
Special Teams
- Tyreik McAllister continued to get some reps as kick returner, which could lead to him getting a few reps in the preseason game this Saturday.
- Pierce said Wednesday before practice that Turner, AJ Cole and Daniel Carlson have been some of most exceptional special teams players in his eyes this far through camp.
Quote of the day
We don't have guys looking to get out of practice. We've got a mentally tough team, and we've got a team that's pissed off and want to prove a lot of people wrong. Antonio Pierce
