Oakland Raiders WR Seth Roberts hauled in 7 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell to the Seahawks, 31-21, at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
Seattle won the opening coin toss and deferred their choice to the second half and the Raiders chose to receive the opening kickoff. Devon Wiley returned Stevemn Hauschka's opening kickoff 25 yards to the 18 but a holding call backed the Raiders up to the 10. Christian Ponder got the start at quarterback. The Raiders managed one first down before the Seahawks forced a punt. B.J. Daniels fielded Marquette King's 39-yard punt and was swarmed under immediately at the Seattle 37.
Russell Wilson started at quarterback. Two plays later Wilson went 63 yards to Tyler Lockett for the touchdown. The extra point was good and the Seahawks led 7-0 with 10:43 left in the 1st quarter.
Wiley returned the ensuing kickoff 16 yards to the 20. The Raiders went three and out and King came on to punt. Daniels returned King's 64-yard punt. An illegal block in the back penalty on the Seahawks backed them up to the Seattle 9. R.J. Archer entered the game at quarterback. The Seahawks drove to the Raiders 37 before settling for a 55-yard field goal attempt. The kick was good and the Seahawks led 10-0 with 3:12 left in the 1st quarter.Wiley returned the ensuing kickoff 40 yards to the to Oakland 32. The Raiders had something going until Brice Butler dropped a Ponder pass deep down the right sideline on 3rd and long. Kevin Smith returned King's 43-yard punt to the Seattle 26.
The Raiders eventually forced a punt during a penalty-filled possession and Jon Ryan came on to punt. Wiley called for and made a fair catch at the Oakland 10. Matt McGloin entered the game at quarterback. Three plays later, McGloin was sacked and fumbled in the end zone. Seattle recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point was good and the Seahawks led 17-0 with 11:21 left in the 2nd quarter.
George Atkinson III's impressive kickoff return was wiped out by a penalty and the Raiders started at the 15. McGloin engineered a scoring drive that he capped with a 6-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Seth Roberts, who did a great job of getting both feet down in the corner of the end zone. Kicker Giorgio Tavecchio's PAT was good and the Seahawks lead was trimmed to 17-7 with 4:27 left in the 2nd quarter.
Tavecchio's ensuing kickoff flew out of the back of the end zone for a touchback and the Seahawks started at the 20. The Raiders forced a three-and-out and Ryan came on to punt. Wiley called for and made a fair catch at the Oakland 30. The Raiders settled for a Tavecchio field goal attempt. The 52-yard kick was no good and the Seahawks led 17-7 at the break.
The Seahawks got the ball to start the second half and the Raiders forced a three-and-out thanks to a LB Josh Shirley sack. The Raiders started at the Oakland 48 after a 22-yard punt. McGloin led another scoring drive throwing a 28-yard laser to wide receiver Rode Streater for the touchdown. Tavecchio's PAT attempt was good and the Seahawks lead was cut to 17-14 with 10:04 left in the 3rd quarter.
Tavecchio's ensuing kickoff was fielded in the end zone for a touchback and the Seahawks started at the 20. Daniels, who played receiver earlier, took over at quarterback. Daniels ran the read-option time and time again and drove the Seahawks deep into Raiders territory. Penalties threatened to derail the drive, but Daniels hit WR Kasen Williams for a 15-yard TD pass in the left corner of the end zone. The PAT was good and the Seahawks led 24-14 with 3:50 left in the 3rd quarter.
Atkinson returned the ensuing kickoff to the Oakland 25. The Seahawks forced a King punt. WR Kevin Smith returned the 55-yard punt 6 yards to the Seattle 15. The Seahawks drove out the 45 the Raiders forced a punt thanks to a 3rd down sack. Wiley returned the punt to the Oakland 20.
The Raiders moved out to the 48 but Seattle forced a punt. Smith returned the punt to the Seattle 40. The Seahawks pushed the lead to 31-14 with a RB Thomas Rawls touchdown run and PAT with 5:29 left in the game.
Atkinson returned the ensuing kickoff to the 16. Ponder returned to the game at quarterback. RB Michael Dyer capped the 84-yard drive with a 1-yard TD run. Tavecchio's extra point was good and the Seahawks led 31-21 with 48 seconds left. Raiders FB Jamize Olawale recovered the onsides kick at the 50. The Raiders were unable to do anything with it.
The Raiders finish the preseason with a 1-3 record and open the 2015 regular season Sunday, Sept. 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals at O.co Coliseum.
