The Las Vegas Raiders announced Thursday that the team acquired two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith via a trade with the Seattle Seahawks.
Here's a look at some of the reactions from notable sports media members.
"I love this move for Las Vegas because it does not mean anything but flexibility and stability. The bottom line is, in terms of flexibility, they can go wherever they want with that draft choice now. They're not locked in to having to get that quarterback. Geno is nothing but stable, man. That guy is somebody that the locker room will be able to look at and rally around." - Rich Eisen on the Rich Eisen Show
"The approach with the Raiders. It's awesome. It's Pete Carroll, it's Geno Smith. He knows what Geno's all about. You want to jumpstart your culture, we talk about it all the time. How about a guy that's been there, knows how you operate as the head coach, can spread your message in the locker room." - Chris Simms of Pro Football Talk
"The Geno Smith situation, I like it for the Raiders because now you have somebody who can play quarterback. And you're in a division that is the most competitive division in football. Now you've got, at least every Sunday, know that your quarterback gives you a chance. And maybe Geno Smith is a B-level quarterback, but that's OK. You've got Brock Bowers, you've got Maxx Crosby, you've got a chance in the draft to get somebody." - Dan Patrick on the Dan Patrick Show
"For the Raiders, I absolutely love it. Geno Smith, incredibly underrated quarterback. Part of the reason he struggled at times in Seattle - a huge part of the reason, the biggest reason - was their offensive line was so bad. He faced one of the highest quick pressure rates in football. When he was kept clean, his numbers were up there with anyone. Accurate, experienced veteran quarterback. I absolutely love this for the Raiders." - ESPN's Mina Kimes via YouTube
"When you look at Chip Kelly, when he came to Philadelphia the first time, it was everything that he did at Oregon. It was up-tempo, it was spread. Well that's the offense that Geno Smith grew up in at West Virginia. I mean, it's exactly the same offense. He understands tempo, he understands shotgun, he understands getting the ball out of his hands fast. Going back to when Geno got that job with Seattle, I remember there was a quarterback battle, him and Drew Lock. Geno won that battle. I remember talking to Geno at that time and he said for the first time in his whole career, he felt like the organization had his back. Pete Carroll has his back in this deal right here." - NFL Network's Brian Baldinger via Instagram
"I like Geno in Las Vegas. Brock Bowers, really good. I think Las Vegas has OK receivers. I'm a big Jakobi Meyers guy, but they're going to have to add some pieces as well. The offensive line is a little bit better than I think the play at quarterback made you think. Geno was fantastic last year with a bad offensive line. But they need to add some pieces. I love the fact that he's with Chip Kelly. They need to another starting offensive linemen or two, but I think Geno gives this team the chance to just compete in games on a week to week basis." - ESPN's Dan Orlovsky on the Pat McAfee Show
