Latino Astronaut, Bay Area-native and Raider fan Jose Hernandez will be at the Hegenberger Gateway Raider Image store in Oakland this Sunday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Jose will sign autographs and pose for pictures with Raider fans. Jose took part in NASA's most recent space launch mission. The Space Shuttle Discovery, STS-128, embarked on the 30th U.S. mission to the International Space Station and the flight delivered equipment and supplies with a reusable multi-purpose logistics module. As part of Jose's Commitment to Excellence, he took a Raider flag on his mission and represented the Raider Nation in outer space.
The Oakland Raiders will honor Jose for serving as a role model for Latinos around the world. The ceremony will take place during pre-game festivities at the Raiders vs. Jets game this Sunday. Jose will present the flag he took into space to the Raiders organization. Hall of Fame center Jim Otto will accept the flag on behalf of the Raiders. Representatives of the Chabot Space and Science Center will also be present to recognize Jose's contributions to science and the community.
