What They're Saying: Steelers preparing for 'game-wrecker' Maxx Crosby

The Raiders are back home at Allegiant Stadium this weekend for a matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Take a look at what the Steelers' players and coaches had to say ahead of Week 6.

On DE Maxx Crosby:

"Maxx Crosby is a game-wrecker, to be quite honest with you. It starts there. You've got to minimize his impact on the game, particularly in one dimensional passing moments. And it's more than just wishing someone 'good luck' in terms of blocking them. You'd better do some schematic things to minimize him, with body position and two people, etc., things that he sees each and every week, though. It's not like I'm rediscovering the wheel here. You know, he sees those type of things every week, and so we better do those things, but also work with extreme urgency in terms of minimizing his impact on the game." - Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin

"Love the way he plays. Maxx plays hard. He plays the way the game should be played. As a defender, you talk mess, you back it up and Maxx does that week in and week out." - Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward

On defensive coordinator Patrick Graham:

"I've got a lot of respect for him, and he challenges you in a lot of ways schematically. He's thoughtfully aggressive in a lot of circumstances. He likes to apply pressure. Even when he doesn't apply pressure in terms of number of people, he's got top quality rush-men that really control the climate from a passing standpoint." - Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin

On LB Robert Spillane:

"At the second level, just got a lot of respect for Robert Spillane. Had a lot of respect for him when he was here, in terms of his approach to business. It's really good to see how his career has taken off in Las Vegas. I think he's their defensive captain. He's a splash playmaker. He made a ridiculous amount of tackles a year ago, but also had plays on the ball in terms of turnovers, three or four interceptions. He's doing similar things for him this year. He's an all circumstances [guy]. He's a really good communicator, doing a really good job for those guys." - Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin

On the Raiders defense:

"They've got some top quality people on the back end, man, some ball skill corners, a good safety rotation of guys. They play a lot of people, as I mentioned. When I was talking about Patrick Graham schematically, particularly in situational moments, his utilization of personnel. He'll go nickel 4-2, nickel 5-1. He'll go dime. He'll put six DBs on the field in one-dimensional passive moments. Out of all of those personnel groups, he has a solid complementary package of blitzes, strong side stuff, weak side stuff, zone blitzes, man concepts. It just does a really good job of working to keep coordinators and offensive units off-balance with a well thought of mix of aggressive football." - Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin

On TE Brock Bowers:

"They've got a new acquisition in Brock Bowers that requires our attention. Since Davante [Adams] has missed some time, you really feel and see an uptick in the utilization of him as a target. He's doing the same things, really, in the NFL that we saw on Georgia tape. I think he leads all tight ends in receptions and yards. His run after [the catch] is exceptional. His combat catch skills and his ability to come down with the ball and traffic is exceptional." - Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin

On film study of QB Aidan O'Connell:

"From this year its a little bit more difficult just because when he's been in the game, it's been late in the game and it's all up-tempo passing, trying to get the ball out and trying to come back late in games. You can watch a little bit of last year as well but it's a different coordinator obviously, so there are going to be some challenges for us." - Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt

On the Raiders' offensive weapons:

"They've got a lot of guys, man. I've always respected Jakobi Myers and his well-rounded game. Tre Tucker is a jet sweeper, double move guy. He's got really good top end speed. D.J. Turner's role has been elevated since Davante has missed some time. D.J. was next door here at Pitt. He's a sturdy body wide out. He's good in traffic. He can oftentimes play inside against linebackers in positions like that because of his sturdy build. I think they even handed him a ball out of the backfield on a run last week as an example of the versatility within his skill set. So we got a lot to deal with, to be prepared for." - Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin

"I think 16 [Jakobi Meyers] is a very capable receiver, 89 [Brock Bowers] as a young player is a really good football player. So, they can pick up the slack, I think, with those two guys. And No. 11 [Tre Tucker] has been doing a really good job in terms of blowing the top off some things. So, they compensate. I don't think it's been one guy doing it. I think they kind of spread it out a little bit, which makes it a little bit tougher. When you have Davante, you know you'd better take care of him, and the other guys, you kind of work at it. Now that they're spreading it around and everybody is able to get it and working hard to get it, we've got to be really on top of our stuff this week." - Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin
