2024 Raiders Position Review: Defensive Backs

Players on injured reserve

Players on Reserve/Future

Tre'von Moehrig took a huge leap in his fourth season in the Silver and Black, being trusted to fly all over the field and make plays. He was the team's second-leading tackler (64 solo tackles) behind Robert Spillane, and secured 10 pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. Moehrig is set to become a free agent when the new league year begins in March and was ranked by ESPN as one of the top free agents in this class.

Jakorian Bennett made a noticeable jump from his rookie season as he did not allow a single touchdown in coverage with eight pass deflections and a 52.3 completion percentage as the nearest defender. His breakout campaign was halted by a shoulder injury suffered in Week 11 against the Miami Dolphins that landed him on injured reserve.

Cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Jack Jones had their ups and downs throughout the season. Hobbs missed six games due to various injuries. Jones allowed eight touchdowns in coverage. Nevertheless, Jones still led the team in interceptions (three) and pass deflections (16) while Hobbs compiled 33 solo tackles and five pass deflections.

Starting safety Marcus Epps suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers. Isaiah Pola-Mao and rookie Thomas Harper stepped in to fill the void. Pola-Mao ended the season with 89 total tackles and five pass deflections and was named Week 16 AFC Defensive Player of the Week after forcing two fumbles in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Harper, who was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Chargers, started five games this season and notched his first career interception in Week 17 against the New Orleans Saints.

The Raiders invested in the secondary during the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting Decamerion Richardson, M.J. Devonshire and 2023 Jim Thorpe Award winner Trey Taylor. After recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in training camp, Richardson went on to start seven games and totaled three pass deflections in his rookie campaign. Taylor earned a role as a special teamer while Devonshire spent the season on the practice squad.

Darnay Holmes appeared in 16 games in a rotational role throughout the season with Sam Webb and Chris Smith II being core special teamers. Las Vegas native Kyu Blu Kelly played four games in 2024, eventually signing to the active roster from the practice squad in Week 16.
