Quick Snap: Raiders fall to Broncos

The Raiders fell to the Broncos, 34-18, on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High.

Things couldn't have started better for the Silver and Black in this divisional matchup. On an efficient four-play opening drive, Gardner Minshew found rookie tight end Brock Bowers for a 57-yard touchdown pass – the first TD of his career.

It marked the first time this season that the Raiders have scored on their opening drive and was the longest play by the Raiders this season.

The offense kept rolling to add three more points on a field goal on the following drive, bringing the game to 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. However, the scoring for the Silver and Black came to a halt.

The Broncos stormed back starting with a field goal in the second quarter and went on to score 34 points as the Raiders offense couldn't quite find it's groove to respond. On one of the Silver and Black's two trips to the red zone, Minshew's pass was intercepted by Pat Surtain II, who ran it back for a 100-yard pick-six.

Minshew finished 12-of-17 for 137 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

The Raiders didn't help themselves on either side of the ball, racking up 11 penalties for 79 yards on the day – the team's most in a single game this season.

With 1:31 left in the third quarter, Aidan O'Connell came in at quarterback. On his second drive under center, the second-year QB was picked off by Surtain. However, O'Connell settled in in the fourth quarter and led the team on a 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended in an Ameer Abdullah touchdown run. A successful two-point conversion brought the team to the final score of 34-18, Broncos.

O'Connell finished Sunday 10-of-20 for 94 yards.

One bright spot was Maxx Crosby, who continued his streak against the AFC West rival by sacking rookie quarterback Bo Nix twice – one for 13 yards and one for six – to notch the defensive end's 10th consecutive game with at least one sack against the Broncos. It is the longest such streak by any player against the Broncos since sacks became official in 1982.

The Silver and Black (2-3) return home for Week 6 and will turn the page to face the Pittsburgh Steelers at Allegiant Stadium.
